Left ventricular aneurysm in the African.
نویسنده
چکیده
Left ventricular aneurysm is a very rare finding in the African and it is the purpose of this paper to describe four such cases, including one following coronary thrombosis. Sternberg (1914) has shown that 85 per cent of cardiac aneurysms in white patients follow on myocardial infarction. A different picture is presented in the African. In a series of fifteen African patients with left ventricular aneurysm, Jacobs (1952) found that none were due to coronary thrombosis, whereas his 65 cases of aneurysm in white patients were all due to this cause. The low incidence of coronary thrombosis (and consequently of left ventricular aneurysm) in the African appears to be due to the notable absence of severe coronary atherosclerosis (Wainwright, 1958). This last observation has also been the experience of workers at other centres in Africa (Becker, 1946; Higginson and Pepler, 1954; and Gelfand, 1948).

Mitral subannular left ventricular aneurysm. A case report.
A mitral subannular left ventricular aneurysm in an Ovambo man is described. This condition should be suspected in patients of negroid descent presenting with mitral incompetence and a localised bulge on the left heart border on chest radiography. Mitral and aortic subannular aneurysms are discussed, including the diagnostic use of ECG gated cardiac blood pool imaging.
متن کاملMitral subannular left ventricular aneurysm. A case presenting with ventricular tachycardia.
A young African immigrant presented with ventricular tachycardia in association with two mitral subannular left ventricular aneurysms. Although an unusual finding, the recognition of such aneurysms is important as prophylactic measures may prevent complications. Furthermore, they are a surgically treatable cause of heart failure and arrhythmias.

Submitral left ventricular aneurysm is a cardiac pathology widely recognized, but relatively unknown, occurred almost exclusively in African black patients. Although still this idea of racial prevalence exists, cases have been described in patients of all the races. Ten Brazilian cases were reported. One of them was presented inside an Italian paper that refers the surgical treatment of a Brazi...

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is an open communication between the upper descending thoracic aorta and the proximal left pulmonary artery, which results from persistence of the fetal ductus arteriosus. It may be isolated or occur with other congenital cardiac anomalies. Aneurysms of the ductus arteriosus are rare lesions which may occur as a spontaneous. infantile fonn or occur in later c...
متن کاملHolt-Oram Syndrome: A Rare Variant
Holt-Oram syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder, characterised by skeletal abnormalities of the upper limb associated with congenital heart defect, mainly atrial and ventricular septal defects. Skeletal defects exclusively affect the upper limbs in the preaxial radial ray distribution and are bilateral and asymmetrical. They range from clinodactyly, absent or digitalised thumb, hypoplastic...
